As it becomes apparent that defensive coordinator Wink Martindale and head coach Brian Daboll “have fallen out and could SPLIT before the end of the season,” the New York Giants season devolves into chaos.

The relationship between defensive coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale and head coach of the New York Giants, Brain Daboll, is reportedly in a “bad place.”

According to Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer on Sunday, Daboll and Martindale’s disagreement has gotten so bad that they might decide to split up in the coming weeks.

“I don’t see them actually continuing their relationship after this season—maybe not even during this season—because of bad place,” Glazer remarked.

On November 12, the already-frustrated Giants were humiliated 49–17 by the Dallas Cowboys, which heightened tension between the coaches.

The Cowboys had a 28-0 halftime lead, and cameras caught the team’s annoyance boiling over to the sidelines.

Tom Rindali of Fox stated that Daboll spoke with Martindale for the majority of the intermission after having a “spirited conversation” with Saquon Barkley. Before the second half began, the discussion continued on the field.

“People within the organization tell me that there is tension between these two; you could feel it,” Glazer continued.

Martindale and Daboll were both hired for their roles in the previous season. After joining the team, the two helped the Giants end a five-year playoff drought and postseason droughts, going 9-7 overall. Additionally, Daboll was named the NFL coach of the year for 2022.

Regretfully, the Giants failed to carry over their success from the previous season into the current one.

Before playing the Patriots on Sunday, the Giants had a 3-8 record. New York continues to struggle on both ends and is currently positioned last in the NFC East.

After averaging 333.9 yards per game in 2022, the Giants are currently 31st in the NFL with 262.2 yards per game under Daboll. However, Martindale’s defense hasn’t performed much better either, giving up an average of 371.7 yards per game this year.
