Former defensive end for the Buccaneers who won a Super Bowl signs with the Miami Dolphins
Jason Pierre-Paul, a former defensive end who won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, signed a contract with the New Orleans Saints, an NFC South rival, almost exactly two weeks ago today. After joining their practice squad, Pierre-Paul was added to the 53-man roster for just one game.
Following the horrific achilles tear that their edge Jaelan Phillips suffered this past Sunday, things will be taking another positive turn for the nearly 35-year-old as it looks he will be finding a home for the remainder of the season as the Miami Dolphins are expected to sign JPP off of the Saints practice squad to their 53-man roster, according to Ian Rapoport.
Even though Pierre-Paul is a 13-year NFL veteran and his best days are probably behind him from his time with the New York Giants and his subsequent career revival in Tampa Bay, one thing is certain about JPP: he will always bring tenacity, passion, and hard workâqualities that the NFL values greatly and which the Dolphins evidently still seem to see in him.
The two seasons that JPP was with the New York Giants (2011) and (2014) saw him have the most production. He recorded double-digit sacks in both seasons, and he was named to the First Team All-Pro in 2011. Along with his three Pro Bowl selections, Pierre-Paul is a Super Bowl champion from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020.
This season, Pierre-Paul played in just one game while the New Orleans Saints managed just two tackles. With the Baltimore Ravens last season, he saw the field for more than half of the season, starting 13 games and recording 26 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, and an interception.
