Rockets Rumors: Jeff Green, Victor Oladipo, and Others May Be Traded Before the Trade Deadline

The Houston Rockets, who finished 22–60 the previous season, have made a significant comeback, going 8–7 to begin the current campaign.

In light of this, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype speculates that the Rockets may be buyers at this year’s deadline (February 8, 2024) and may move some “tradeable contracts” in an effort to improve the roster.

“Looking ahead to the February trade deadline, Houston will look to continue upgrading its roster with the tradeable contracts of Victor Oladipo, Jock Landale, Jeff Green, and future draft pick(s) compensation, league sources told HoopsHype.”

Houston hired Ime Udoka as their new head coach and added point guard Fred VanVleet and wing Dillon Brooks. Considering the team’s miserable 2022–23 campaign, the results have been encouraging to the point where a playoff run appears likely.

Numerous veterans in Houston have contracts that are about to expire, including Victor Oladipo, who owes the team $9,450,000 this year before becoming a free agent. The two-time All-Star is currently sidelined due to a torn patellar tendon that he sustained while playing for the Miami Heat in the playoffs last year.

The Rockets also have the option to reject Jeff Green’s $9.6 million team option for 2024–25. Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, Boban Marjanovic, Aaron Holiday, and Reggie Bullock are among the other veterans whose contracts are about to expire.

Jock Landale signed a four-year, $32 million contract, but after this season, there are no guaranteed dollars left in it.

In the end, the Rockets have the components to change course if they so desire. They should take advantage of their strong start if they want to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since James Harden’s departure. Alperen \engün, 21, appears to be a perennial All-Star at this point, and the Rockets may be positioning themselves for long-term success. Houston is undoubtedly a team to keep an eye on as the deadline draws near.
