Former All-Star Receives Excellent Injury Update for Minnesota Twins
This week brought good news regarding Byron Buxton’s injury after a season marred by persistent knee problems.
According to a Minneapolis Star-Tribune article:
“Dr. Camp stated that he is completely healed from the surgery,” baseball operations president Derek Falvey informed me on Friday. “No residual effects exist. He had a nice appearance. That seemed like a very encouraging sign to me.”
Buxton’s next step is to finish his rehabilitation, which is currently underway. By the end of the season, the Twins believe he should be cleared to participate in some baseball-related activities.
It is currently hoped that Buxton will return to centerfield in 2024. Although it is the hope, it is not a guarantee. In 2023, he only played designated hitter in an attempt to maintain his health, but he still sustained injuries. He participated in just 85 games during the regular season, marking the sixth time in his seven full seasons as a regular that he missed at least 100 games.
Due to his health, Buxton was unable to participate in almost all of the Twins’ postseason run, which saw them go on to the American League Division Series. After getting hurt in that series, he was added to the roster and saw just one pinch-hit at-bat.
He struggled with his performance at the plate in addition to his health. Despite hitting just.207 with 17 home runs and 42 RBI, Buxton was an All-Star in 2022. Even with the new rules that make stealing bags easier, he only stole nine bases.
Getting a significant internal improvement from Buxton could be crucial because the Twins have stated that they intend to reduce payroll in 2024.
