Red card apology received by Preston North End; Ryan Lowe expresses Lyndon Dykes’ annoyance

Despite not searching for an explanation following Preston North End’s loss to Queens Park Rangers, manager Ryan Lowe believed Lyndon Dykes ought to have been sent off.

During an aerial duel, the Rs striker’s arm struck PNE defender Andrew Hughes, earning him a yellow card. According to Sky Sports pundits, Dykes’ challenge was ‘dangerous,’ and referee Josh Smith could have easily given him a red card.

Nevertheless, the Scotland international continued to play, and Marti Cifuentes’ squad defeated a lackluster North End 0–2, with both goals coming in the second half. When questioned about the Dykes incident after the game, Lowe stated that he thought the decision should have been clear-cut.

The fact that Jamilu Collins remained on the field after headbutting Ched Evans in the most recent Cardiff City defeat infuriated PNE as well. According to Lowe, Preston was informed by a panel that they were treated unfairly in that particular case, and he anticipates Dykes will receive a similar message.

“He’s a good player and I don’t really want to see anyone sent off, but I think last year he gave Liam Lindsay six stitches in the back of the head,” stated Lowe. “He cut Andrew Hughes’ lip and nose with blood. The referee hasn’t seen it, but I have the opportunity to see it immediately on the side. We lost because we were well below the levels, and I’m not searching for an explanation.

“However, it must be done correctly if you are going to do it. You can see it as a sending off. We recently lost five to zero on the current board; to put it another way, Ched received a red card the other day. We were nowhere near the levels, so I am not holding on to anything, but they will probably review this one and say the same thing. But occasionally, those times are beneficial.”
