Following a star player’s season-long absence, the Houston Texans suffer a severe blow.

On Sunday, the Houston Texans defeated the resilient Denver Broncos 22–17, overcoming a team that had plenty of fight left in them. On the day, they also had an enormous number of turnovers. The Texans were able to take advantage of the three interceptions that the Broncos threw during the game, including the last one that Jimmie Ward helped seal to give the team the victory.

The Texans managed to win the game, but not without suffering a significant defeat. Tank Dell helped block for running back Dameon Pierce during the first quarter while he was positioned near the line of scrimmage. However, as he was moving a Broncos defender aside, the mass of bodies behind him caught up to him, engulfed him, and brought him down.

The rookie sensation was left on the ground after the move appeared to have trapped and then snapped his leg. His season has ended due to a severe injury—it was reported that he had a fractured fibula. Although it’s unknown as of this writing whether he will require surgery, a fracture seems likely. He was just recovering from a calf injury that could have prevented him from playing in the Broncos game when the injury occurred.

Dell had not yet made an impression for the Texans through the air when he was hurt during the game; he had left the field without any yards or receptions. With 47 receptions on 75 targets, 709 yards, and seven touchdowns in what was arguably the best rookie season in franchise history, Dell will conclude his rookie campaign with the Texans.
