Signing with the Ipswich Wanderers, Byron Lawrence
When the 27-year-old played for Needham Market against Peterborough Sports at Bloomfields in November 2021, he sustained a dislocated ankle, a fractured tibia, and a broken fibula.
After making his Marketmen comeback, he signed a dual registration contract with Wanderers to continue his journey back to full fitness.
Glen Driver, a well-known manager in Suffolk non-league, formerly managed Leiston. The Ipswich club is currently ranked 15th in the Isthmian North table.
At the age of just 16 and 47 days, Lawrence made his debut for the Blues as a substitute against Doncaster in 2012 after joining Town at the age of 14.
Despite being the third youngest player in Town history, he only made one appearance for the Essex team before leaving in 2014 to join Colchester United.
Wanderers tweeted: “Byron Lawrence has joined us on a dual registration, and we are thrilled to announce his signing.
“After suffering a terrible injury two years ago, Byron put in a lot of effort to return to the football field. We are happy that he has decided to join Wanderers.
“We thank Needham Market for their support in allowing Byron to join us.”
“I’m really pleased to have agreed to a deal to bring Byron to our club,” stated Boss Driver. I’ve previously worked with Byron at Leiston and Braintree.
“Byron has now participated in several games, and Kevin Horlock and I feel that this decision will help him in his continued recuperation from his injury.
“He’s a player I know very well and I’m sure he will be a successful addition to our squad.”
