Commanders DT in Washington Jonathan Allen Isn’t Up for ‘Another Remodel’

The Washington Commanders (4-9) were once again a respectable, even competitive team, but under new ownership.

Unfortunately, the Commanders’ on-field problems have not been resolved by the departure of one owner and the arrival of a new group led by Josh Harris. As of right now, fans are more engaged with the 2024 NFL Draft and free agency than they are with the final four games of the current season.

Defensive tackle Jonathan Allen, a prominent figure in Washington, is putting a limit on his personal involvement in the team’s future.

“I do want to win,” Allen stated in a Monday interview with The Sports Junkies. “I’m not interested in undertaking another rebuild.”

When Allen angrily expressed his frustration in an NSFW locker room conversation earlier this season, it caused a stir and raised some rumors that the team captain might be traded in the middle of the season.

Although the Commanders did not trade Allen, they did ship out teammates Montez Sweat and Chase Young, as the team chose to part ways with the two skilled defensive ends.

Allen informed the Junkies he had previously considered the question of whether or not his future is connected to Washington. It might now be time for him to give it some serious thought.

“One hundred and ninety-nine percent. “I mean, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t,” Allen responded to a question about whether he had ever considered quitting the team. “I play this game to win, and while I would definitely love to win here, my main goal is to win…That will always be the first and foremost thought in my mind.”

Allen then clarified that his remarks are not meant to be interpreted as an announcement that he will be leaving after the season, adding that his attention is now on the final four games.

It’s difficult to ignore Allen’s perspective, and as his career progresses, there are fewer and fewer chances for him to enjoy sustained success in the NFL.

And nearly everyone involved has been taking serious stock of their own lives and futures as a result of this reality and the total collapse of a defense that was formerly regarded as being on the verge of being the best in the league.
