Celtics Are Anticipated to Be Interested in Trade at the 2024 Deadline

Although the Boston Celtics are regarded as one of the NBA’s best teams, their roster still needs some work.

The Athletic and Stadium’s Shams Charania revealed on Tuesday that the Celtics are probably going to look into trades before the deadline in February.

“The Jrue Holiday trade cost the Celtics a couple first-round picks, but they still have some first-round picks left over. As February approaches, I anticipate the Celtics to be active in trade talks in an effort to strengthen their bench rotation, according to Charania.

The Celtics were knocked out of the In-Season Tournament on Monday after losing to the Indiana Pacers 122-112. Jayson Tatum scored 32 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, while Jaylen Brown chipped in with 30 points and nine rebounds for Boston. But the team’s lack of depth proved to be its undoing as Kristaps Porzingis continued to recover from a calf strain while he was playing.

Despite the fact that both Boston and Indiana used just four players off the bench, the Celtics lost 33–21. Luke Kornet contributed six points and Sam Hauser scored fifteen, but Dalano Banton and Payton Pritchard shot a combined 0-of-6 from the field.

Boston continues to lead the Eastern Conference in record at 15-5. Still, the team’s starting lineup is heavily dependent on its starters. After only 10 minutes of play, Hauser leads the Celtics in scoring when he comes off the bench.

Although Boston is a consistent contender for titles, the team’s quest for a championship has been hampered in recent years by depth concerns. Tatum and Brown need more help from the rest of the team if the Celtics are to succeed this season.

When the Celtics play again on Friday, they will try to get back on track against the winner of the quarterfinal match between the Milwaukee Bucks and the New York Knicks in the In-Season Tournament.
