QB Brett Rypien of the Seattle Seahawks signed while Aaron Rodgers is still out by the New York Jets

Aaron Rodgers, the quarterback for the New York Jets, just got back to practice, but Brett Rypien of the Seattle Seahawks practice squad will be joining the team.

The New York Jets are signing quarterback Brett Rypien of the Seattle Seahawks off the practice squad, according to reports from NFL insider Josina Anderson on Tuesday. Tim Boyle, who started at quarterback for the Jets in their 13-8 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, is being released by the team.

Aaron Rodgers, the star quarterback for the Jets, was just placed on return from injured reserve. Though he has resumed practice, it doesn’t seem like he will miraculously return just yet. In Week 1, against the Buffalo Bills, he sustained what was initially believed to be a season-ending Achilles injury.

Regarding Rypien, he signed to the practice squad on November 8 but was not a Seahawk for very long. On November 5, he made his Los Angeles Rams debut at Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers, a 20-3 loss. After being released by the Rams on November 7, he completed 13 of 28 passes for just 130 yards and one interception in that game. However, it appears the Seahawks saw something in him and signed him to the practice squad.

Rypien has participated in ten games during his career, completing 98 of 168 passes for 950 yards, four touchdowns, and nine interceptions.

Now, he’ll have to put up some strong performances with a Jets team that has lost five straight games. The Jets entered Week 9 with a respectable 4-3 record; however, since then, they have plummeted to a 4-8 record and are almost certainly going to miss the playoffs.

In a crucial NFC West matchup, the Seahawks will travel to face the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
