Proposed Trade Idea: Major Marcus Smart for the Milwaukee Bucks
Does the Memphis Grizzlies and Milwaukee Bucks make sense in this trade?
Although Ja Morant’s suspension and injuries are the main causes of the Memphis Grizzlies’ dismal start to the season, they have also left a large hole that Morant will need to fill when he returns. The Grizzlies’ chances of winning this season have increased thanks to the play-in tournament, but Memphis may need to make some moves if a swift turnaround following Morant’s return is not achieved.
The following trade proposal for Marcus Smart and the Milwaukee Bucks was recently made by Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report:
Milwaukee Bucks: Marcus Smart, G.
The Memphis Grizzlies Acquire: F/C Bobby Portis, G/F 2024 second-round selections Pat Connaughton and MarJon Beauchamp (via Portland Trail Blazers)
“After the Boston Celtics were able to eventually land Jrue Holiday, the Bucks counter here with Marcus Smart, creating absolute chaos at the top of the Eastern Conference,” Swartz wrote about the reasoning behind this deal. The front court now takes precedence for a Grizzlies team getting ready for Ja Morant’s comeback while Steven Adams is out for the entire campaign.”
Of course, this is just a hypothetical trade, but the Grizzlies would strengthen their injured front court while the Bucks would acquire one of the best guard defenders in the game. Even though it’s likely that the Grizzlies will give their current squad an opportunity to succeed once Morant returns, if the outcomes aren’t great, deals might be made.
