Howell, by the way, completes this list. On the one hand, Howell currently leads the league in passing yards (2,783). With 17 passing touchdowns, he is third in the NFL, and he has also thrown nine interceptions. All things considered, Howell has performed about as well as you could have asked for under Bieniemy.
The Commanders had no idea Howell would be their man coming into this season. Although the fans showed a great deal of faith in him, did they really anticipate a season like this one? Halfway through the season, I doubt any fan would have predicted that Howell would be leading the league in passing.
However, Howell has taken a lot of sacks and still holds the football for an excessive amount of time. He still has a chance to shatter the single-season sack total record. As is typical for any young quarterback, turnovers can be an issue. However, don’t undervalue the Commanders’ chances of selecting a quarterback among the top four or five picks in the upcoming class.
It might be a good thing to give Howell more competition. As of right now, statistically, Howell has more than sufficed. He still has a ways to go, though, in terms of some of the mental decision-making components. Is he the one to come? Indeed. However, there’s also a good chance he doesn’t wind up representing Washington.
