ON AND OFF THE ICE, MATTIAS EKHOLM EMBRACES NEW HOME WITH EDMONTON OILERS

In addition to becoming a die-hard fan of the Edmonton Oilers and their pursuit of a Stanley Cup, Mattias Ekholm’s family has been devoted to Edmonton ever since he joined the team

Over the past few months, fans of the Edmonton Oilers have witnessed a lot of Mattias Ekholm’s plays. However, they might have seen him this summer in Edmonton, somewhere other than Rogers Place.

The defensive mainstay of the Nashville Predators was traded to the Oilers last season, in one of the biggest deals of the NHL trade deadline. Being one of Edmonton’s best defenders in the second half of the season and into the playoffs, Ekholm made an instant impression on the ice.

Not just Ekholm’s on-ice play won over the locals; he also brings a valuable skill set and experience to strengthen the Oilers defense core. As they raise their family and pursue success with his most recent team, who is currently enjoying a strong season, he and his family remain devoted to the city.

In late October, Ekholm said to The Hockey News, “We just moved into a new neighborhood a few months ago. We just bought a new house.” “We had never been here longer than as the visiting team, so it was important for us to get into the schools, have some time to settle in and get to know the neighbors, and just kind of set up our lives here. It was excellent in that regard, and we had a great time.”

The Ekholms spent the whole off-season in the city, attending sports and summer events. Additionally, they grew their family when Leo, Ekholm’s third child, was born to Swedish media personality Ida Bjornstad and Ekholm’s wife.

“It was perfect timing for us, obviously,” he stated.
