Kyle McCord and Julian Fleming from Ohio State Transfer to Visit Nebraska

It seems that in order to advance the program, the Nebraska Cornhuskers might turn to two Ohio State Buckeyes.

Wide receiver Julian Fleming and transfer portal quarterback Kyle McCord are anticipated to visit Nebraska this week, according to Max Olson of The Athletic.

In 2023, McCord started at quarterback for the Buckeyes, and Fleming was a four-year member of the Ohio State receiving core. December was when both players accessed the portal.

In his lone season as a starter, McCord helped lead the Buckeyes to an 11-1 record after spending two seasons supporting C.J. Stroud in Columbus. He completed 65.8 percent of his passes for 3,170 yards, 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions.

But Ohio State’s one loss of the season—to archrival Michigan for the third straight year—outweighs any of the victories. In that game, McCord completed 18 of 30 passes for 271 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. The second interception came during the last drive, when the Buckeyes were attempting to win the game.

His time with the program will be tarnished by his failure to lead Ohio State to victory in the rivalry game, but he led the Buckeyes to victory over a formidable Penn State squad, masterminded a game-winning drive against Notre Dame, and would be a great addition to a Cornhusker squad that could use strong quarterback play.

Despite being a five-star recruit and the top overall wide receiver in the 2020 class, Fleming’s ability to make an impact was hindered by a very competitive position group. Throughout his four years in Columbus, he made 79 receptions for 963 yards and seven touchdowns; however, he never gained more than 550 yards in a single season and finished behind top receivers like Emeka Egbuka and Marvin Harrison Jr. this past season.

Both players might benefit from a change of scenery, and Lincoln undoubtedly needs some talent. Additionally, a game against the Buckeyes would be possible because Ohio Stadium will host the Cornhuskers and Buckeyes on October 26.
