Browns’ New $36 Million Player Could Miss the Remaindering Regular Season
After recently agreeing to a contract extension with the Cleveland Browns, standout safety Grant Delpit could miss the remainder of the regular season due to a groin injury.
On Monday, Delpit formally signed a three-year, $36 million contract extension with the Browns. The group released a statement to formally announce it.
Delpit expressed his excitement about advancing his career in Cleveland. Since the day of my draft, the city has only shown me love. The Haslams, [Andrew Berry], my coaches, and my teammates—I have nothing but praise for everyone and the atmosphere since coming here. I’m excited to carry on this successful culture and return the favors that Cleveland has shown me. Although it is annoying that the injury happened yesterday, I am making every effort to recover as quickly as possible in order to support the team’s victory.
Delpit will have to postpone his festivities. He sustained a groin injury that forced him to leave Sunday’s victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, he is a “candidate” for injured reserve. Delpit would have to miss a minimum of four games if he is placed on injured reserve. And that concludes the regular season.
The Browns are hoping that Delpit returns for this crucial home stretch, but according to Cabot, he may be placed on injured reserve, which would force him to miss the final four games.
Browns Are Still Awaiting Grant Delpit’s Final Word
Delpit, a 2020 second-round selection, has seven tackles for a loss to go along with his 83 tackles, which leads the Browns. He has played a significant role in Cleveland’s defensive transformation. If he is out of commission for any length of time, it will be missed.
Delpit expressed his excitement about advancing his career in Cleveland. Since the day of my draft, the city has only shown me love. Since I’ve been here, I can’t say enough positive things about everyone and the atmosphere, including the Haslams, AB, and all of my coaches and teammates. I’m excited to carry on this successful culture and return the favors that Cleveland has shown me. Although I am frustrated that the injury happened on Sunday, I am making every effort to recover as quickly as possible in order to support the team’s victory.
The Browns have yet to decide whether to put Delpit on injured reserve. Head coach Kevin Stefanski says the team is still waiting on additional information.
Regarding Delpit, Stefanski stated on Monday, “Still working through that injury and getting some more clarity on that one.”
Browns Struggling With Injuries Throughout the Field
Delpit’s injury is the most recent in a string of setbacks for the Browns this season. Veteran safety Juan Thonrhill (calf injury) and Pro Bowl cornerback Denzel Ward are already out of the secondary.
But nobody in Cleveland is offering an explanation. The Browns are still in the driver’s seat for a postseason berth at 8-5.
Myles Garrett, a star player for the Browns, stated on Sunday, December 10, “We’re not quitting and we never will.” In the face of any hardship, whether it be individually or as a team, not one man will give up or falter. With our eyes fixed on the prize, we will all be pointing in the same direction.
This week, the Browns travel to play the Chicago Bears. Chicago has won their last two games despite having struggled at times this season.
