Oklahoma State is using the Transfer Portal to target a former Sooner defensive lineman.

Oklahoma OL Cayden Green plans to enter Transfer Portal

The Cowboys want to make a single move to neutralize their opponent and bolster their defense.

With its most recent transfer portal offer, Oklahoma State is attempting to overtake an in-state competitor.

Reggie Grimes II, a former defensive lineman for Oklahoma, has been offered by the Cowboys. Grimes spent four seasons in Norman before logging onto the transfer portal earlier this month.

Grimes’ playing time was severely reduced in 2023, which led to the end of his tenure with the Sooners. This season, he has only made four trips onto the field, recording two tackles.

Grimes’ redshirt was preserved because of OU’s depth at the position, which prevented him from playing past September. His inactivity made it possible for him to be eligible for two seasons at his new school.

Even though his last season at OU wasn’t the best, OSU and others should be interested in his career in Norman. Grimes participated in all 13 games in 2022, starting ten of them.

His total tackle total at the end of the 2022 season was 18, with 7.5 tackles for loss. In the backfield, he posed a serious threat.

That season, Grimes recorded 4.5 sacks in addition to forcing a fumble and breaking up a pass. Prior to that, he had another successful 13-game season in OU’s 2021 campaign, which came just one victory short of a Big 12 Championship.

That season, Grimes forced two fumbles: one against Kansas State and one against Tulane. Even though he only started five games in 2021, the former Sooner still finished with 18 tackles.

Grimes was a four-star prospect out of Tennessee who was ranked No. 31 in the nation by ESPN prior to attending OU. He started 15 of the 38 games he played during his time at OU.

Grimes could be used by OSU to strengthen the physicality of Bryan Nardo’s defense. Another explanation might be retaliation for the Sooners’ acquisition of former Cowboy Trace Ford via the transfer portal the previous season.
