Oklahoma Gains Trust Through Effective Transfer RB

On Wednesday, the Sooners secured a commitment from a top FCS tailback, giving them more room in their running back lineup for the 2024 campaign.

Samuel Franklin, the running back for Tennessee-Martin, committed to Oklahoma on Wednesday night via the transfer portal.

Martin amassed 1386 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns this season for the Skyhawks, averaging 6.2 yards per carry.

Standing at 5 feet 10 inches and 200 pounds, the Little Rock, Arkansas, native scored three touchdowns and had a season-high 256 rushing yards against Missouri State this year.

Franklin joins former Michigan State offensive lineman Spencer Brown and former Purdue wide receiver Deion Burks as the third offensive player to commit to OU through the transfer portal.

The Sooners were in need of an experienced running back to split the workload with returning starter Gavin Sawchuk in the SEC next season, as Tawee Walker, Marcus Major, and Daylan Smothers were all listed on the transfer portal.

Jovantae Barnes, Kalib Hicks, and incoming freshman Taylor Tatum, in addition to Sawchuk and Franklin, may play a role in DeMarco Murray’s 2024 running back rotation.

Franklin is thought to have two years left of eligibility after playing three seasons at Tennessee-Martin.
