Ohio State Buckeyes Sign 3-Star OT Deontae Armstrong
On Wednesday, Deontae Armstrong signed his letter of intent, giving the Ohio State Buckeyes’ offensive line some much-needed strength.
The offensive line of the Ohio State Buckeyes has gained another important member.
Deontae Armstrong, a three-star offensive tackle, became the third offensive lineman to commit to the Buckeyes that day when he signed his letter of intent early on Wednesday morning.
The Ohio native, who was born in Lakewood, graduated from St. Edward High School earlier this year with the 2023 Division 1 Football State Championship. Among other schools, Michigan and Penn State extended offers to Armstrong, who was a highly sought-after recruit.
This season, Ohio State’s offensive line has been under fire for a number of unsteady outings, including the season-opening loss to Indiana and the season-ending victory over then-No. 3 Michigan. Although it was not at its best in those games, the Buckeyes offensive line was partially to blame for their below-average performance against the Hoosiers and loss to the Wolverines.
Armstrong enters the picture at a moment when departing senior leaders Josh Fryar (graduation) and Jakob James (transfer portal). During offseason camp and the upcoming season, Armstrong might be one of the young leaders who establishes himself as a voice in the position room.
Armstrong is exactly five inches shy of six feet six inches, and he weighs 270 pounds. Armstrong is one of the lighter players on the Ohio State offensive line based on these stats, but that will undoubtedly change once he gets to Columbus.
It is safe to say that Armstrong’s game speed is something that Buckeyes offensive line coach Justin Frye hopes will not change. Armstrong makes up for any physical deficiencies he may have in comparison to other college linemen (for the time being) at the line of scrimmage by outmuscleing them.
