Gannon: TE Geoff Swaim of the Cardinals “might not be able to go” against the Bears
TEMPE — When the Arizona Cardinals play the Chicago Bears in Week 16, they might not have veteran tight end Geoff Swaim.
Head coach Jonathan Gannon did not seem hopeful about the tight end’s availability for Sunday, even though Arizona is still assessing his calf injury.
Before practice on Wednesday, Gannon stated, “He might not be able to go.” “I know it is usually a two-day evaluation, but we are still kind of evaluating that and seeing where it goes today with that one, with his specific case.”
Arizona will probably turn to undrafted rookie Elijah Higgins to shoulder a heavier workload alongside Trey McBride if Swaim is unable to play.
The former wide receiver made a smooth transition to a tight end, and he showcased his abilities by scoring the Cardinals’ lone receiving touchdown of the afternoon last week against the San Francisco 49ers in Swaim’s place. It was also the first TD of his career.
Blake Whiteheart and Bernhard Seikovits, who would not be able to play this week due to the International Player Pathway Program rules, are the practice squad members behind those two.
Gannon remarked, “We feel good about Trey and Higgy, and Blake is ready to go.” “Seiko is here, I know that. We will see how that goes, but we might add a few pieces. Everyone in the field will be prepared to go.
In Week 16, will Hollywood Brown be playing?
Brown is still dealing with a persistent heel problem that kept him out of last week’s Cardinals game against the 49ers, so Swaim is not the only pass catcher on the mend for the Cardinals this week.
His situation for Sunday is still very much up in the air as we start the workweek.
Gannon remarked, “We will see how the week goes.” “He needs to be healthy for us to win, but we might have to make some adjustments.”
In the event that Brown is unable to play, Greg Dortch, Rondale Moore, and Michael Wilson will likely participate more in the receiving game.
Will the weather affect when the Cardinals play?
The brevity of the response is no.
The weather will not affect any of our guys, according to Gannon. “They will go if they can go and help us win the game.”
As of right now, the weather forecast for Chicago’s 2:25 p.m. MST kickoff is 43 degrees Fahrenheit with a 21% chance of rain.
