Transfer of Ohio State DE Omari Abor Agrees to Attend SMU
Omari Abor, a defensive end for the Ohio State Buckeyes, has found a new home after registering on the NCAA Transfer Portal at the end of November.
The former five-star recruit has committed to the SMU Mustangs, according to a statement from Abor.
Abor, a Duncanville, Texas, native and four-star commit to the Buckeyes in the 2022 class, is now going back to his hometown of the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.
118. Omari Abor
He played just a few snaps in the season’s opening game against Arkansas State before missing the remainder of the regular season with a knee injury, which caused him to miss the most of 2022 for the Buckeyes. Then, before the 2023 campaign, he sustained an injury that was not disclosed and needed surgery.
Abor has made two total tackles this season, one of which came in each of the victories over Western Kentucky and Purdue.
Before Ohio State lost to Georgia in the College Football Playoffs the previous season, Abor had removed his black stripe. This suggested that he might play a significant role in 2023, but that never happened.

Nevertheless, his talent was highly praised.
Director of player development C.J. Barnett stated in December 2022, “This guy had a minor setback, but he is been working hard every day.” “He has demonstrated that he possesses a small dog within him.”
Abor will have the opportunity to stay in a Power conference by playing for the Mustangs, as SMU will be joining Cal and Stanford in the ACC this summer, as part of a nationwide conference realignment.
