Transfer portal: Mizzou acquires Darris Smith, a former Georgia edge rusher.

Missouri’s Columbia: Missouri football logged into the transfer portal even on the day set aside to lock down high school recruits.

On Wednesday, the Tigers acquired Darris Smith, a former edge rusher from Georgia, securing an in-conference transfer’s portal commitment.

Before opting to depart, Smith played for the Bulldogs for two seasons. Although he has not played much this year, on November 4th, he had two tackles in Mizzou’s 30-21 loss to Georgia.

Listed as an outside linebacker, Smith’s height of 6-foot-5 and weight of 240 pounds provide length to the edge. Coach Kevin Peoples of edge rushers and defensive coordinator Blake Baker will have an intriguing weapon in him thanks to his size and skill set.

Smith will be among the candidates vying to join the defensive line rotation now that Darius Robinson, a defensive end, is no longer eligible.

Smith played two ways for Appling County High School in Baxley, Georgia, where he was born.

Together with offensive lineman Cayden Green, running back Marcus Carroll, and cornerback Toriano Pride Jr., he is Missouri’s fourth portal acquisition to date.
