Jay Stansfield is one of the possible transfer targets for the upcoming January window.
Ipswich Town has reportedly inquired about Fulham striker Jay Stansfield in anticipation of the upcoming January transfer window. Stansfield had an impactful season on loan at Exeter City in League One, scoring goals in an emotional return to his boyhood club, where he wore the No. 9 shirt previously retired after his father, Adam Stansfield, passed away in 2010.
Following his loan spell at Exeter City, Stansfield moved up a division, joining Birmingham City on loan, where he has notched five goals in 19 Championship appearances, including one against Ipswich during a 2-2 draw in November. The 21-year-old, a two-cap England U21 international, aligns with Ipswich’s recruitment criteria of being ‘young, hungry, technical, and athletic.’ Stansfield has made three Premier League appearances for Fulham and is contracted with the club until 2027, making any potential transfer likely to involve a substantial fee.
Recent reports suggest that Ipswich Town has a transfer budget of £3 million, with a weekly wage cap of £15,000, to secure a front man in the upcoming window. However, the club may consider exceeding these limits, remaining within Financial Fair Play rules if the right player becomes available. Town chief executive Mark Ashton emphasized their preparedness for the January window, expressing a willingness to be brave and bold but not reckless in their transfer approach.
Stansfield, who has previously worked with Town’s first team coach Charlie Turnbull during his youth development at Craven Cottage, is just one of several strikers being considered by Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna as the team aims for consecutive promotions into the Premier League. The current striking options include George Hirst, Freddie Ladapo, Dane Scarlett, and Kayden Jackson.
