The Oklahoma Sooners successfully secure the commitment of transfer offensive lineman Febechi Nwaiwu.

The Oklahoma Sooners have been actively reshaping their offensive line in the current offseason, responding to the departure of five players who started games for the team in 2023. Their efforts have been notably focused on the transfer portal.

Among their acquisitions, Spencer Brown from Michigan State has been secured, and there is positive momentum in their pursuit of Geno VanDeMark, Brown’s former teammate. Adding to the offensive line options, OU recently received a commitment from Febechi Nwaiwu, a transfer from UNT.

Nwaiwu, who has started 20 games in the past two seasons, including eight in 2023, contributed to a successful Mean Green offense that ranked 23rd in the nation with 34.5 points per game. His primary position has been at right guard, accumulating over 1,600 snaps during his collegiate career.

Despite dealing with injuries, Nwaiwu earned recognition as a freshman All-American in 2022 and received All-Conference honors in the American Athletic Conference in 2023. Notably, Sooners’ new offensive coordinator Seth Littrell was the head coach at North Texas when Nwaiwu initially earned a walk-on spot in 2021.

Given his experience at right guard, Nwaiwu could seamlessly fill the vacancy left by McKade Mettauer. However, as the Sooners continue to pursue offensive line talent, especially with the potential addition of VanDeMark, coach Bill Bedenbaugh will have various options to consider for the interior positions.
