The Tennessee Titans dismiss Special Teams Coach Craig Aukerman and provide injury updates for Stonehouse, Simmons, and Henry.

In Week 13, the Tennessee Titans faced a series of setbacks against the Indianapolis Colts, including two blocked punts and injuries to key players Jeffery Simmons, Derrick Henry, and Ryan Stonehouse. Providing updates on Monday, Coach Mike Vrabel revealed the dismissal of special teams coordinator Craig Aukerman in the aftermath of the disappointing performance.

The firing of Aukerman, who had been with Vrabel since 2018, was confirmed, with experienced coach Tom Quinn appointed as his successor. Vrabel expressed his excitement about Quinn taking charge during a press conference, citing Quinn’s wealth of experience and teaching abilities.

The Titans’ special teams blunders, such as blocked punts, a lengthy kickoff return allowed, and a missed extra point, were identified as major contributors to their defeat against the Colts. Vrabel emphasized the need to address these mistakes and expressed confidence in Quinn’s ability to lead the special teams unit effectively.

In terms of injuries, the Titans suffered a blow as Stonehouse, the talented punter, sustained a season-ending injury due to Aukerman’s errors. Stonehouse will undergo surgery and miss the remainder of the year. Vrabel also provided updates on Simmons and Henry, stating that Simmons is expected to be sidelined for several weeks, while Henry, despite taking a hit to the head, is not in concussion protocol, contrary to earlier reports.

Despite these challenges, the Titans face a tough matchup against the Miami Dolphins in Week 14, necessitating more than just a change in special teams. The absence of Simmons adds to the difficulties, but Vrabel remains optimistic, hoping for a turnaround, perhaps even a miraculous performance, on Monday Night Football.
