The Twins have inked a deal with ex-Royals pitcher Josh Staumont.

The Minnesota Twins have maintained a low profile this winter, aligning with the trend among numerous teams during a gradual free agency period. Despite the subdued activity, the Twins recently made a significant addition to their roster.

On Wednesday, the team officially announced the signing of former Kansas City pitcher Josh Staumont to a one-year deal. Staumont, aged 30, showcased his skills in 21 appearances for the Royals last season, amassing a 5.40 ERA across 20 innings, including one start. His performance included 24 strikeouts and 13 walks. Commencing the season in Triple-A, he received a recall on April 14 but unfortunately landed on the injured list with a neck strain on June 7, causing him to miss the remainder of the season.

Having been drafted in the second round of the 2015 MLB Draft, Staumont has dedicated his entire professional career to the Royals’ organization. Since his MLB debut in 2019, he has accumulated a 9-7 record with a 4.01 ERA over 168.1 innings. His stat line includes eight career saves, 30 holds, 191 strikeouts, and 95 walks over five seasons in the major leagues.

Staumont is expected to vie for a spot in the Twins’ bullpen, providing much-needed depth in an area where the team is relatively thin. With his signing, the Twins’ 40-man roster now stands at 37 players, distributed among 18 pitchers, three catchers, eight infielders, and eight outfielders.
