A respected figure from the Kansas City Chiefs urges Patrick Mahomes to draw inspiration from Tom Brady’s playbook, emphasizing the need for Mahomes to incorporate certain elements from Brady’s approach.

Exceptional quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes emerge only once in a generation, but this season has underscored that there is still room for improvement in his game. According to former Chiefs star Dante Hall, Mahomes could benefit from adopting a page from Tom Brady’s playbook and not always aiming for the spectacular play. Hall suggests that there are situations where executing swing routes and checkdowns would be the most effective way to secure a first down or a touchdown. However, Hall notes that Mahomes has become somewhat accustomed to consistently attempting spectacular passes to players like Travis Kelce or Tyreek Hill. In contrast, Hall points out that Tom Brady, at times, didn’t mind getting down and dirty, and he believes that this is what Mahomes might be missing this season.

Amid recent offensive struggles for the Kansas City Chiefs, Dante Hall appeared on ‘Good Morning Football’ to discuss Patrick Mahomes. While he doesn’t solely place the blame on the quarterback, he also implicates Chiefs’ offensive coordinator Matt Nagy. Hall expressed his sentiments, stating, “Patrick Mahomes, I love you. You’re my favorite quarterback, but you need to fall in love with the mundane.” He suggests that despite the excitement generated by big plays to Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce over the past five years, Mahomes should embrace a more pragmatic approach, akin to ‘Checkdown Tom Brady.’ Hall advises Mahomes to value swing routes and checkdowns, emphasizing that body language is crucial and negative reactions can impact the team.

Hall also attributes some responsibility to Nagy for the lack of pragmatism in the Chiefs’ offense. He notes that under Eric Bienemy’s tenure as offensive coordinator, the team did not face these discipline issues. Looking ahead, the Chiefs have an opportunity to rebound over the weekend when they face the Cincinnati Bengals. Despite their 8-7 record, the current Kansas City team is far from the Super Bowl-winning form of the previous season, but Hall remains optimistic that not all is lost.
