Ohio State’s punter, Jesse Mirco, has entered the NCAA transfer portal following the Cotton Bowl.
The starting punter for Ohio State in the 2023 season, Jesse Mirco, has officially entered the transfer portal. Mirco, who concluded his third season with the Buckeyes with an eight-punt performance in the Cotton Bowl against Missouri, made the decision to explore transfer opportunities on Saturday.
This move follows Ohio State kicker Parker Lewis, who also entered the transfer portal but continued to work with the Buckeyes leading up to their Cotton Bowl loss.
A member of the 2021 class, Mirco had a notable three-year tenure as the starting punter for Ohio State, totaling 130 punts with an average distance of 43.9 yards per kick. In the 2023 season, he maintained an average of 43.5 yards on 50 punts. Mirco achieved a career-high 386 punting yards in the Cotton Bowl against Missouri, surpassing the 300-yard mark only once previously during Ohio State’s road win against Northwestern on November 5, 2022.
Throughout the 2023 regular season, Mirco punted more than four times in a game only once, during Ohio State’s victory against Penn State on October 21.
Mirco, originally from Australia, received training from ProKick Australia, the same program that trained former Ohio State punter Cameron Johnston.
