The Rams have decided to bring back kicker Brett Maher, re-signing him following the release of Lucas Havrisik.

The Los Angeles Rams, having released kicker Lucas Havrisik on Monday morning, have reportedly re-signed Brett Maher, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Maher, who previously served as the team’s kicker for the first seven games of the season, is returning after being let go in October, following a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers where he missed two field goals and a PAT.

Maher, 34, had a prior stint with the Rams just a few months ago. During his initial tenure, he made 17 of 23 field goals and 12 of 13 extra points. The decision to release him in October stemmed from his performance in the Steelers game.

Before joining the Rams, Maher had three seasons with the Dallas Cowboys in two separate stints and a year with the New Orleans Saints in 2021. Throughout his five-year career, he has achieved a 79.9 percent success rate on field goals and a 95.2 percent success rate on PATs.

Lucas Havrisik, who took over Maher’s role earlier in the season, had an inconsistent few weeks with the Rams. In nine games, the 24-year-old made 15 of 20 field goals and 19 of 22 extra points. However, after some struggles with consistency, including missing two extra points in the recent win against the New York Giants, the Rams opted for a change.

Despite the suboptimal timing of changing kickers a week before the playoffs, the Rams, who have faced kicking game challenges throughout the season, deemed it a necessary risk. The team also briefly added veteran kicker Mason Crosby to their practice squad but released him before he played a game. Crosby later signed with the Giants, where he ironically missed the game-winning kick against the Rams on Sunday.
