The Lions have released a former defensive tackle from the Steelers.

PITTSBURGH — Ahead of the playoffs, the Detroit Lions have decided to part ways with Isaiah Buggs, the former defensive tackle for the Pittsburgh Steelers. As reported by NFL Network’s Tom Peliserro, the team has waived Buggs, the former sixth-round pick, to create space for the return of another defender.

Buggs, who joined the Lions last season following his release from the Steelers in 2021, has been a consistent presence, playing in 27 games with 16 starts during his time with the Lions. In the current season, he participated in 10 games and started three, registering 12 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, and one fumble recovery.

This roster move is aimed at opening up a spot for the return of defensive tackle Alim McNeill, who is poised to come back from Injured Reserve for Week 18’s game. McNeill had been sidelined for four weeks due to a knee sprain.

During his three seasons with the Steelers, Buggs played in 29 games, including seven starts, and contributed 31 tackles to the team’s defensive efforts.
