Jesse Mirco, the punter, moves to Vanderbilt following a three-season stint with Ohio State.
The Ohio State Buckeyes are facing another departure to the transfer portal, with punter Jesse Mirco opting to conclude his final season of eligibility with the Vanderbilt Commodores after spending the past three seasons with the Buckeyes.
Hailing from Fremantle, Australia, Mirco achieved his second consecutive season with over 2,000 punting yards, wrapping up this year with a total of 2,174 yards. In his junior campaign, he executed 50 punts, averaging 43.5 yards per punt.
Mirco’s workload steadily increased during his time at Ohio State, starting with 31 punts in his first year in 2021, escalating to 49 in his sophomore season, and reaching a peak of 50 punts in the most recent season. This uptick in punting attempts coincided with Ohio State’s offense experiencing a comparatively slower season.
In addition to his punting duties, Mirco contributed with a few tackles and carries over his tenure. He registered two tackles and gained 24 rushing yards from two carries.
Mirco announced his commitment to Vanderbilt succinctly on his social media pages, keeping the message brief.
With Mirco’s departure, Ohio State’s current depth chart includes two punters, Joe McGuire and Austin Snyder. The upcoming offseason and spring practices will be crucial for evaluating their performance, with the annual Spring Game serving as a significant indicator of who might take the field against Akron on August 31.
