Panthers ask Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan for an interview

Cincinnati — In their quest to find their next head coach, the Carolina Panthers have asked to speak with Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan.

Callahan, who arrived in Cincinnati in 2019 with head coach Zac Taylor and defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, is the son of former Oakland Raiders head coach Bill Callahan. He previously worked as the Detroit Lions’ and Raiders’ quarterback coach.

Despite having difficult first two seasons as offensive coordinator, Callahan’s offense blossomed in 2021 after quarterback Joe Burrow made a full recovery from an ACL and MCL tear. The Bengals were among the top 10 in passing yards, completion percentage, and touchdowns scored in each of the two seasons Burrow played.

Burrow has also had nothing but praise for Callahan.

Callahan will have more head coaching interviews in the future. Last offseason, he was a candidate for the vacant Colts position.

In addition to Callahan, Panthers reporter Darin Gantt reported that the team is asking to speak with the following coaches:

Ben Johnson, the offensive coordinator for the Lions
Bobby Slowik, offensive coordinator for the Texans
Dan Quinn, defensive coordinator for the Cowboys
Mike Macdonald, defensive coordinator for the Ravens
Frank Smith, the offensive coordinator for the Dolphins
Rams defensive coordinator Morris Raheem
Todd Monken, offensive coordinator for the Ravens
Dave Canales, offensive coordinator for the Buccaneers
Zoom interviews are permitted, but in-person interviews cannot take place before January 22.
Even though Anarumo is not on the list, it would not be surprising if other teams asked to speak with him during the offseason. Last offseason, he was a finalist for a position with the Cardinals.
