Hellas Verona are closing in on the loan signing of Rangers defender Ridvan Yilmaz, according to Sky Sports Italy.

The news outlet shared (12 January) that the Serie A club are now in the “driving seat” to beat the fellow Serie A sides Sassuolo and Monza and secure Yilmaz’s signature with talks now progressing to an advanced stage.

Daily Record shared on 11 January that the Ibrox recruitment team are looking for a left-back with Yilmaz now set to follow Sam Lammers out of the Ibrox exit (Rangers Twitter account, 10 January) doors this month.

Verona left-back Josh Doig is of interest to the Gers to replace the outbound Yilmaz.

Drawing closer

It now looks as if Yilmaz will indeed be following Lammers out of the Ibrox exit door this month with Hellas Verona now given a clear run to secure his signature.

It seems as though Clement and new transfer chief Nils Koppen are searching for a more youthful look at left-back which spells the end of Yilmaz as a Rangers player.

Yilmaz joined from Besiktas last summer in a deal worth around £3.5m, but due to his struggles with injuries in his debut campaign, he largely found himself behind Barisic in the pecking order under Michael Beale.

However, he has started a fair few games under Clement but has still come under major scrutiny for his unconvincing displays and it seems the Belgian is tired of his inconsistencies already.

The Gers will now be left with just one left-back in the squad but it’s critical Clement and Koppen secure their replacement for the Turk fairly quickly with a few names already in the frame at Ibrox.

It’s a real shame how Yilmaz’s Ibrox career has panned out but its best all parties part ways for the time being.
