Matthew Stafford intends to continue playing after the Rams’ 2024 Playoff Run and has no retirement plans.

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford appears to have no intentions of retiring, as he prepares for the Wild Card Round matchup against his former team, the Detroit Lions. Despite being 35 years old and dealing with injury concerns in the past, Stafford is reportedly feeling better than ever, with no plans to hang up his cleats.

After ending the previous season prematurely due to neck and concussion issues, Stafford used the offseason to address lingering elbow problems, allowing him to focus on rehab, rest, and strengthening his arm. Observers familiar with his performance over the years note that he is throwing the ball exceptionally well, making retirement unlikely.

Stafford’s 15th NFL season in 2023 marked a significant improvement from the injury-riddled 2022. He threw for 3,965 yards, with 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, guiding the Rams back to the playoffs. Despite playing in only nine games in 2022, his strong recovery and consistent desire to continue playing align with recent reports.

Under contract until 2026, with a potential out after 2025, Stafford’s commitment to playing could benefit the Rams, given his stellar performance. If he maintains this level of play, Los Angeles is expected to remain a formidable contender in the NFC for several seasons. Now, Stafford aims to disrupt the Lions’ first home playoff game since 1993, with the upcoming matchup scheduled for Sunday at 8:15 P.M. ET.
