The Light Blues’ run to the big showpiece event where they faced Eintracht Frankfurt was a memorable one and beating the likes of Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig was a huge achievement. It would have been immeasurably more memorable had they managed to get the better of another German outfit in Seville.
A Joe Aribo opener gave them the lead and fans the belief that their momentum in the competition was about to carry them all the way to getting their hands on the famous trophy. It wasn’t to be, and after conceding an equaliser they went on to lose in the most heartbreaking of fashions, on penalties.
