Rangers have made an approach in the January transfer window to Boca Juniors over a deal to sign winger Luca Langoni, according to Dom Smith.
The Standard journalist reported via X and the paper’s website that the 21-year-old attacker is also of interest to Premier League Fulham but no contact has been made by the London side.
The Light Blues however are joined by Nice in Ligue 1 and La Liga side Sevilla as clubs who have got in touch with the Argentine side over a move, with Langoni tipped for a European move in the near future.
Smith wrote: “Fulham linked with Boca’s Luca Langoni earlier this month. I understand no contact made. But I’m told there have been approaches from Rangers FC, OGC Nice & Sevilla FC for the 21-year-old, who could soon be playing in Europe.”
In his update on the website it adds: “The 21-year-old right-sided winger is certainly turning heads in the Argentine Primera División, though, and Standard Sport understands Rangers, Nice and Sevilla have all made recent approaches for the player.
“Langoni is expected to continue attracting interest from European sides, and could leave Boca this summer.”
A move for any player from Argentina at this stage might be complicated by their season getting under way just before the end of the month.
But by the looks of things anyone who wants to get ahead of the game on a deal for Langoni is going to need to move quickly if there is interest from four countries already.
At the very least the Light Blues appear to be laying down the ground work for a potential summer switch, when it would be expected that Philippe Clement can oversee a proper reshaping of the squad.
He will obviously need to be more successful than Michael Beale was in the same circumstances last summer, as his overhaul left Rangers looking light on the wings, at least prior to the emergence of Ross McCausland.
But with Abdallah Sima the regular starter on the other flank, and the on-loan Brighton man’s future past the end of the campaign uncertain, the club are going to need alternatives if they can’t secure a permanent deal.
Langoni has only made 45 total appearances for Boca so is clearly still developing but he has shown enough potential to alert a wide range of clubs and the Light Blues have thrown their hat into the ring.
