Celtic will still refuse a 700 ticket allocation at Ibrox for derby fixtures due to safety concerns, it has been reported.
News emerged today that Glasgow’s big two are in discussions about bringing back away allocations to future derby matches.
Celtic refused around 700 tickets for their trip to Ibrox earlier in the season, citing safety concerns, with the Parkhead club keen for a return to the more traditional away allocation at both grounds of around 7,500 supporters.
Broadcaster STV have now reported that the stance remains the same despite talks taking place between the two clubs in recent weeks.
Reports today suggested that Celtic would be allocated 750 tickets for their next trip to Ibrox, which will take place on Saturday, April 6.
Likewise, when Rangers make the short journey across the city to Parkhead in the post-split fixtures, they too will have the same amount of tickets if talks progress positively.
Rangers were keen to take 700-800 tickets for their trip to the east end of Glasgow at the turn of the year and took their case to the Scottish Professional Football League, but despite SPFL Rule I27 currently stating that “the home club must make provision for the admission of such reasonable numbers of visiting supporters” the Ibrox club were left unhappy.
The SPFL is believed to have encouraged the arch-rivals to reach an agreement over the matter, with the wider view that the stand-off is tarnishing the spectacle of powderkeg fixture.
