“Go and secure a victory”: Kelly Stafford encourages the Lions following their triumph against the Rams.

DETROIT – Following the Detroit Lions’ hard-fought victory against the Los Angeles Rams in the first playoff game at Ford Field, Kelly Stafford had a message for her husband’s former team. Matthew Stafford, who spent 12 seasons as the face of the Lions franchise, was traded to the Rams in 2021, marking his return to face the Lions in the playoffs.

Despite his longstanding association with Detroit, Stafford found himself on the opposing side this week as the Lions secured their first NFC North title in 30 years, earning the right to host a playoff game. The matchup was undoubtedly challenging for both Matthew and Kelly Stafford, especially with many Lions fans displaying their disapproval by wearing Stafford jerseys at the stadium.

When Matthew Stafford took the field on Sunday night, the crowd that used to cheer for him now greeted him with boos, adding an emotional layer to the game. While Stafford understood the impersonal nature of the reaction, it likely carried some emotional weight.

Despite the initial tension, it is evident that most Lions fans have always supported Stafford, even wishing him success in winning a Super Bowl when he joined the Rams. In the aftermath of the game, Kelly Stafford took to Instagram on Monday to express her sentiments.

“What a season, and for it to end at Ford Field,” she posted. “Already excited for this Rams team next season. And he will be back next year Detroit, but until then, go get you one!!!” The message reflects a sense of camaraderie and mutual respect between the Staffords and the city of Detroit, despite the competitive nature of the playoff game.
