Ipswich Town releases Kyle Edwards, and he subsequently joins Oxford United.
The winger, who transferred from West Brom to the Blues in 2021, netting three goals in 63 matches, faced a shift in circumstances after the team’s promotion to the Championship. Manager Kieran McKenna disclosed that the player could seek more playing time elsewhere. Subsequently, he embarked on a loan spell with Oxford, earning praise from fans until a hamstring injury in September disrupted his progress.
Despite a brief return, a reoccurrence of the injury sidelined him for an extended period. Consequently, Ipswich opted to recall him from the loan, leading to a mutual agreement to terminate his contract. Des Buckingham confirmed that Edwards would continue his rehabilitation with the club, and a deal has been extended until the season’s end, allowing him to return to action in the final stages of the campaign.
Expressing satisfaction with the return, Oxford’s manager remarked via the club website, “We are delighted to have Kyle back, understanding his talent and the performance level he can achieve. Although his availability was unexpected, it appeared to be a sensible solution for everyone involved. The team will support Kyle during his rehabilitation, and he is expected to regain fitness in the last month of the regular season.”
Edwards, reflecting on his comeback to the Kassam Stadium, conveyed, “I cherished my time at Oxford and was disappointed not to feature more due to my enjoyment of the game. Injuries proved to be significant setbacks, but I have been diligently working, feeling progress daily. The medical team has been exceptional, placing me in a positive position.”
He added, “The fans were incredibly supportive during my time here, providing me with a goal now: to recover fitness and celebrate success together at the season’s end.”
