Has Jerod Mayo given away who the Patriots want to draft in the NFL Draft?

The New England Patriots and their new head coach, Jerod Mayo, are in for a critical offseason.

Following a 4–13 campaign, New England must significantly strengthen their roster in order to steer clear of a repeat performance in 2024. The offensive side of the ball is where the majority of those changes must occur.

The Patriots are positioned to choose the team’s future face with the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, but they should be active in free agency as well. They will be able to choose among Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr., a wide receiver with exceptional potential, or one of the three quarterbacks who are often ranked in the top three: USC’s Caleb Williams, UNC’s Drake Maye, or LSU’s Jayden Daniels.

With the draft more than three months away, it’s anyone’s guess where the Patriots stand. That being said, it’s possible that Mayo made a clue about his thoughts when speaking with Steve Burton of WBZ.

Mayo informed Burton, “We’re going to draft the best player for a position that is very important.” “You assembled the parts.”

Maybe Mayo was being ironic, but when all the pieces add together, that really does sound like a quarterback. The Patriots will have the opportunity to select one of the top quarterbacks in the class for the most crucial position in sports.

However, Harrison would address a major need on New England’s roster, so Mayo might have been alluding to him. Harrison is without a doubt the best wide receiver available in the 2024 draft and should become one of the best players in the league right away.

In any case, columnist Phil Perry feels the Patriots need to gamble on a quarterback selected with the third overall pick. He would choose Daniels above Williams and Maye if he were in control.

On draft day, it is unclear who will be making the choices for New England. Director of player personnel Matt Groh and director of scouting Eliot Wolf are in position to take the helm of the front office now that Bill Belichick is no longer there. Owner Robert Kraft stated, “We want to see what we have in-house, look what’s out there in the marketplace, and then do what we think is right,” in reference to the team’s search for a new general manager on Wednesday.
