Tennessee offensive lineman Dayne Davis has decided to extend his time at UT for a sixth year.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — On Thursday afternoon, Dayne Davis, an offensive lineman for Tennessee, revealed his decision to extend his time at the University of Tennessee for a sixth year.

Initially a preferred walk-on in earlier seasons, Davis left a notable mark in 2023 by participating in nine games. His impactful performance included a start against No. 1 Georgia, during which he played 49 offensive snaps without allowing a sack or hit. Davis continued his solid contributions by starting the next game on senior day against Vanderbilt, where he played 55 snaps without conceding any pressures and contributed to the Vols’ impressive 617 yards of offense.

The 2023 season posed challenges for Tennessee’s offensive line, with multiple players sidelined due to injuries, including starting right tackle Gerald Mincey. Davis stepped in admirably during a game against Texas A&M, playing a season-high 32 offensive snaps at right tackle.

Despite Mincey initially expressing intentions to return for the 2024 season, he later announced on January 4 that he would enter the transfer portal. In contrast, veteran starters Cooper Mays and John Campbell Jr. confirmed their return to Tennessee. Given Davis’s past experience filling in at right tackle for Mincey, his ability to contribute in that position will be crucial for Tennessee’s offensive strategy and the protection of quarterback Nico Iamaleava in the upcoming season.
