Philadelphia Eagles centre Jason Kelce has denied he has decided to retire – because there is “too much emotion” following his team’s play-off exit to make a decision on his future.

US media reported the 36-year-old told his team-mates he was retiring after the defeat at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

But, in his New Heights podcast, Kelce denied he has made the decision.

“There’s too much going down in the moment to really fully grasp that decision,” Kelce said.

“I just don’t think you’re in a position after a game like that to really make that decision. There’s too much emotion in the moment.

“I’m not trying to be dramatic and continue to draw this thing out. I’m really not.

“When it’s time to officially announce what’s happening, it’ll be done in a way that’s definitive and pays respect to a lot of people that have meant a lot to me and have led to the career I’ve had.”

Kelce was selected by the Eagles in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL draft and has spent his entire career with the team, winning the Super Bowl in 2018.

He signed a one-year contract last March and made his 145th consecutive start for the Eagles in week six of the season, breaking the franchise record.

Kelce hosts the podcast with his younger brother Travis, a tight end with the Kansas City Chiefs who has attracted significant attention as a result of his relationship with musician Taylor Swift.
