Titans Conclude Coaching Interview with Offensive Coordinator Bobby Slowik of the Texans.
Bobby Slowik, the offensive coordinator for the Houston Texans, has garnered praise for his role in the team’s successful playoff run and the development of rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud. He is among the 10 NFL assistants slated to be interviewed for the head coaching position with the Tennessee Titans.
In Nashville, Slowik, a key contributor to the Texans’ achievements this season, recently became the seventh candidate to undergo a virtual interview for the Titans’ coaching vacancy. The meeting took place over Zoom and involved discussions with Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk and general manager Ran Carthon. The coaching vacancy arose when Mike Vrabel was relieved of his duties following a 6-11 season.
For those unfamiliar with Slowik’s coaching style, watching the Texans’ playoff victory against the Cleveland Browns showcases his impact, particularly in the development of rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, which has been instrumental in the Texans’ advancement to the divisional round of the playoffs.
Slowik took on the role of offensive coordinator for the Texans this season after spending six seasons as the offensive passing game coordinator with the San Francisco 49ers. His tenure with the 49ers, from 2017 to 2022, saw him in various capacities on Kyle Shanahan’s staff, including passing game coordinator, passing game specialist, and offensive assistant. Interestingly, Slowik and Texans coach DeMeco Ryans both started their coaching careers as defensive quality control coaches in San Francisco during the same season.
Among the other candidates interviewed by the Titans are Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan, Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, Raiders interim coach Antonio Pierce, Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, and Panthers offensive coordinator Thomas Brown. Initial interviews are also expected for Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson of the Detroit Lions, as well as Brian Johnson from the Philadelphia Eagles.
