Tom Coughlin Responds to Antonio Pierce’s Hiring by the Raiders
With two recent head coaching hires, the Las Vegas Raiders, Josh McDaniels and Jon Gruden, both left their positions before their contracts were up.
One and a half disappointing regular seasons led to McDaniels’ firing, while Gruden resigned following the release of contentious emails.
But Mark Davis, the owner of the Raiders, took the widely accepted choice to name Antonio Pierce the team’s new head coach.
Following McDaniels’ dismissal, Pierce was named the team’s acting head coach, and the players and supporters enthusiastically embraced him.
Now that he has the chance to coach the team he grew up supporting, the former linebacker has shown he has a talent for developing relationships with and mentoring players.
Tom Coughlin, the former head coach of the New York Giants, responded to the news of Pierce’s hiring via ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
“The appointment of Antonio Pierce as the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders makes me extremely proud.” For him, his family, and the franchise, I am thrilled. He grew up watching this team, so he is there because he believes in the players and in himself, Coughlin said.
