Rangers manager Philippe Clement uncharacteristically lets slip his transfer excitement as he suggested new arrivals at Ibrox could be here within days.

The Belgian boss was speaking after Rangers progressed to the fifth round of the Scottish Cup with a comprehensive 4-1 victory in a rain-soaked Dumbarton.

On a wet and windy evening at the Rock, progression was the only thing that mattered with goals from John Lundstram, Cyriel Dessers, James Tavernier, and Scott Wright securing the victory.

But amid a tense January transfer hunt, the particulars of the game were something of an afterthought come full time.

Speaking to the Scottish Cup’s official sponsors Viaplay, the Rangers manager was quizzed on the “appetite” of his players after lifting the League Cup in December.

But it was something the Rangers manager said later in his response which will have turned the heads of supporters.

Ordinarily very tight-lipped on the club’s transfer business, Philippe Clement could barely contain his excitement and gave away a wry smile as he let slip business could be concluded in “the next couple of days”.

“I want really ambitious players,” Clement told Viaplay after the match. “If they show me ambition they will get chances, they know.
