Celtic midfielder Paulo Bernardo has come onto a run of form to be envious of. The Portugal under-21 internationalist has emerged as a key asset for Brendan Rodgers over the festive period and well into the New Year.
His first goal in green and white at Dens Park on Boxing Day kickstarted his current run. After this, he opened the scoring in the Glasgow derby with a thunderous volley before beautifully assisting two goals away at St. Mirren on the 2nd of January.
Upon the return to action, Bernardo netted once more, dinking the ball over Buckie Thistle’s ‘keeper in the Scottish Cup with utmost sublimity.
The 21-year-old seems to be improving on a game-by-game basis. Celtic do have the option to sign him permanently, with the buy-out clause in the loan deal with Benfica a realistic one for the Scottish champions to activate, per Brendan Rodgers.
It is looking increasingly likely that a permanent move to Glasgow will transpire for Bernardo, who is quickly becoming a favourite among the supporters.
After the weekend’s match with Buckie Thistle in which he opened the scoring, the player spoke out. He admitted there is much more to come from him in the second half of the campaign.
Firstly, though, he was asked about his scoring streak: “It’s my job too,” he said (The Herald). “I have to do my best. Happily everything is going well for me, but I want to do more.”
“I think I can do better in the second half of the season. I have to improve a lot in my game so I just have to continue to work hard and everything is going to go well.”
