The Detroit Lions resumed their practice on Thursday as they geared up for their upcoming clash with the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship game. Notable absences during the media-accessible part of the practice included center Frank Ragnow, offensive guard Jonah Jackson, defensive back Chase Lucas, and wide receiver Kalif Raymond.

On a positive note, tight end Sam LaPorta rejoined the practice after being marked as a non-participant in Wednesday’s walkthrough. Additionally, linebacker Alex Anzalone participated in the practice session despite being listed as limited.

The Lions have been fortunate to enjoy the advantages of successful drafts orchestrated by general manager Brad Holmes. Many of the players selected in the past three seasons have emerged as crucial contributors to the team.

Furthermore, the team benefits from proficient position coaches. Aaron Glenn, the defensive coordinator, commended both the personnel department for their effective scouting and the coaches for their adept teaching skills as he elucidated the reasons behind the team’s accomplishments.

Glenn stated, “We begin with our personnel department and Brad Holmes, acknowledging their efforts to identify players who align perfectly with our system. They deserve a lot of credit. Also, credit goes to the players themselves because of their development. One crucial aspect we emphasize is the need for coaches who can instruct and nurture talent, as it ensures the longevity of the organization.”

He continued, “Our staff strives to fulfill that role to the best of their abilities, and our coaches are specifically chosen for their roles as educators and developers. These individuals have consistently excelled in enhancing their performance each year, contributing to the steady improvement in defensive statistics. While there is still room for progress, we are overall pleased with their efforts.”
