The Tennessee Volunteers are harboring high expectations and aspirations for the upcoming 2024 college football season. Head coach Josh Heupel and his team are embarking on the second year of a three-year plan, featuring redshirt freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava.

This marks a crucial juncture for a potential run at the College Football Playoff. Despite facing challenges, including tough road matchups against Georgia and Oklahoma, as well as a showdown with the Alabama Crimson Tide (sans legendary head coach Nick Saban), ESPN’s Greg McElroy is skeptical about their chances.

While he believes victories against Alabama and Georgia may be unlikely, McElroy sees the majority of the Vols’ schedule as highly winnable. Currently, he predicts an 8-4 record with a 15% chance of making the 12-team playoff.

McElroy suggests that reaching a 9-3 record would significantly improve their playoff prospects, but he is currently leaning more toward an 8-4 outcome for the 2024 season.
