The Boston Celtics boast a formidable starting lineup with strong cases for multiple players to be considered All-Stars, extending beyond Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

Tatum secured a spot as an Eastern Conference starter, marking his fifth appearance in the annual East-West clash. This announcement coincided with the Celtics’ game against the Heat at Kaseya Center in Miami, prompting speculation that Tatum might not be the sole representative for Boston in the February 18 festivities.

During TNT’s broadcast, former NBA All-Star Reggie Miller suggested the possibility of another Celtics player making the All-Star roster, specifically mentioning Jaylen Brown. Miller’s comment, made after Brown showcased his skills with consecutive 3-pointers against the Miami Heat, raised the question of whether this was a mere prediction or if Miller possessed insider information.

Making the All-Star case for Boston Celtics guard Derrick White

White has been arguably the most underrated, yet efficient two-way guard in the NBA this season, averaging a career-high 16 points on a solid 46.4% shooting. Defensively, fresh off receiving All-NBA Defensive Second Team honors last season, White’s led all guards by averaging 1.2 blocks, proving to be still an integral part of Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla’s starting unit.

Despite taking all of that into account, White may still face exclusion despite putting together a compelling campaign with the Celtics.

Gregg Popovich, the head coach of the Spurs, acknowledged this reality before Boston’s recent game against San Antonio last Wednesday, stating, “We all know it’s true. It’s been happening for a long time. There’s always someone who misses out. The competition for team spots or positions in the West or the East is fierce, and not everyone gets a fair opportunity.”

Popovich observed White’s development from the beginning, guiding the adaptable guard for a span of five seasons in San Antonio. Eventually, the Celtics secured White through a trade with the Spurs in 2022.

Nevertheless, even if external observers continue to underestimate White, the Celtics and the Boston community will undoubtedly value the 29-year-old player.
