In pursuit of a $45 million trade target, a new team joins the Knicks and Lakers

According to Yahoo Sports’ Jake Fischer, the Houston Rockets are the newest team to enter the Malcolm Brogdon sweepstakes, displacing the New York Knicks and the Los Angeles Lakers.

According to Fischer’s report on January 26, “league personnel believe Brogdon has another team with legitimate interest in his services: Houston, which has plenty of former Boston staffers who overlapped with Brogdon during his season with the Celtics.” The Knicks and Lakers are not the only team that might be interested in signing him.

With a $22.5 million guaranteed sum, the $45 million guard is bound to the deal through the following season. After winning Sixth Man of the Year the previous year, Brogdon came to Portland in the off-season through the blockbuster trade involving Damian Lillard and Rudy Holiday.

Even though his team is rebuilding, the 32-year-old veteran guard is averaging better stats than he did the previous year. Brogdon is averaging 15.5 points and 5.3 assists in 33 games, including 19 starts, for the Trail Blazers. He is also making an incredible 42% of his 5.1 3-point attempts.

However, Portland acquired him with the goal of trading him for another draft pick as they carry on their rebuilding around Shaedon Sharpe, Anfernee Simons, and Scoot Henderson.

HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reported on January 18 that “Rival executives who spoke with HoopsHype believe a fair asking price for Brogdon is a first-round pick and salary filler.”

The Lakers can use their first-round selection in 2029. However, they are holding onto it in case they need to trade Dejounte Murray.

However, the Rockets, like the Knicks, have an abundance of draft capital from Brooklyn thanks to both their own and the James Harden trade.

One of the Knicks’ trade options to take Immanuel Quickley’s spot in their starting lineup is Brogdon. According to numerous reports, they are also considering Toronto’s Bruce Brown and Utah’s Jordan Clarkson.

Jalen Brunson Reacts to All-Star Snub Damian Lillard of the Milwaukee Bucks narrowly defeated Jalen Brunson in a close contest for the final NBA All-Star starting guard spot in the East, and Brunson was gracious in defeat.

After scoring 21 points in just 26 minutes during the Knicks’ come-from-behind 122-84 victory over the defending champion Denver Nuggets on Thursday, January 25, Brunson said via SNY, “Congrats to Damian Lillard, he is deserving.”

That is undoubtedly one of my goals, but how we handle business while playing night in and night out is what matters most. That is obviously a personal objective, but without my teammates and coaches, I would not be in that situation. Individual things therefore come our way as long as we win,” Brunson continued.

Charles Barkley is sympathetic to Jalen Brunson.
Charles Barkley, an NBA Hall of Famer, felt bad for Brunson because he missed the cut by a narrow margin.

Following the announcement of the All-Star starters on Thursday, Barkley declared on TNT’s “Inside the NBA” that he would never show disrespect for Dame Lillard. “Jalen Brunson is a great player, and I really love him as a person, but I really would have preferred to see him start. I expressed my amazement at the great player he has become last year.

When Brunson moved to New York, Barkley referred to him as “the greatest free agent signing.”

He continued, “Jalen Brunson’s contribution to the Knicks has, quite simply, made the team relevant for the first time since Patrick Ewing.”

The coaches will select a top reserve, and Brunson is likely to be among them. The announcement will come next Thursday, February 1.
