Philippe Clement explains Todd Cantwell Rangers half time sub after sticky St Mirren win

Todd Cantwell played in the first half before being replaced by Tom Lawrence before the restart; this is not the first time the former Norwich City playmaker has been substituted off early, but Clement was unrepentant in his explanation. Clement gave an explanation for his decision to bring the midfielder on again during the halftime break in Rangers’ 1-0 victory over St Mirren.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound, the manager said it’s critical to make use of every body on the field to refuel his players’ energy and make sure everyone is giving it their all.

“No (injury), it’s a lot of things,” he replied. “It’s for me, people don’t understand that yet, but it’s not important who starts and ends games it’s about winning games and everyone giving 100 percent in the moment they’re on the pitch. The players understand it, we could bring two fresh guys in to bring extra energy to the team, it was just about that.”
